eas That Work
06/28/2005

• Make a wall calendar of the academic school year and put up on a wall in the office or back of door – put up special notes of due dates for certain sports, forms due

• Websites with links to PDF files and resources

• Provide disks to head coaches – head coach does initial eligibility on disk and then gives the disk to AD for rechecking

• Constant communication with coaches and administrators

• Being organized

• Providing staff development activities for your coaching staff that will give them CEU credit through the school system

• Read the NCHSAA Handbook and thoroughly familiarize yourself with all rules and regulations

• Have a major theme(s) to highlight athletics during the year. Example: Women in sports issues – Focus on the challenge that are unique to women athletics.

• Coaches meetings over pizza on non-practice days to discuss issues

• My first year I have been an athletic manager, not administrator. In the future, I will learn how to delegate work, and learn how to “work smarter” instead of just “working harder.”

• Organizational/time management skills are a necessity – develop your own effective way (Use of technolgy)

• Parent/coach communication guide (handbook) • Email staff about weekly activities and upcoming events

• Get involved with the NCADA, NFHS and NIAAA • On some days, just walk away – you will never get it all done

• Take it one day at a time

• Develop a school athletic Website
