Minutes from NCADA Regional Meetings
On Tuesday July 22, 2006 the North Carolina Athletic Directors Association held it's 22nd annual breakfast in Greensboro during the Coaches' clinic. Regional meetings were held and then the NCADA Board met to discuss issues.
Region 1: no report
Region 2: Concerns over fuel prices may lead to modified schedules. More places are needed to certify people to do hydration and skin fold test for wrestling.
Region 3: We need clarification on weight training and skill development. Concern, overlapping seasons. We need to shorten seasons. Charlie Adams reported coaches want to shorten seasons but not their sport.
Region 4: Concern over sectional basketball money distribution. Want uniform playing dates for sectional tournaments. Clarification needed on transfer policy during the sport season. Charlie responded to sectional basketball. We have a new accountant and he is overwhelmed and there was a new structure used this year and quite a bit of confusion has transpired. They are working to rectify the problem.
Region 5: Concern over the hydration problem in wrestling.
Region 6: Hydration concern that no one will be eligible. Concern, money reimbursement from NCHSAA for sectional and state Basketball? Would like information on realignment ASAP
Region 7: Weight training and skill development clarification. Want to know if 8th graders that are moving to 9th can come to lift at the high school during spring if they are not playing at the middle school in the spring. Wants to know the status of NC Wise. Charlie responded saying 8th graders cannot come lift with the high school kids during the school year, however you can have a session for 8th graders only. Once the school year is over they become 9th graders and can lift during the summer or participate in skill development.
Region 8: had concerns over playoffs but the new playoff system would take care of the problem. Want to know about realignment situation.
Charlie shared that our kids are not eligible to attend NFL combines and clinics that are going around where full contact is being used. lignment through the house and senate. He shared that you lose your eligibility on the 8th day of the second semester and any attendance or grade adjustment must be made at this time. It must be a system wide policy for attendance to be made up for athletic eligibility purposes. Reference to playoff money colleges and universities are slow to pay and that delays school receiving money. Charlie says they may go ahead and pay high schools and collect from the colleges later.
